What is the simplest and most basic chord called in western music?

Play c e g with fingers 5 3 1 of your left hand. This is the tonic chord of C major. Then play B F G with fingers 5 2 1 (chord G7) which is the dominant. You could also add C F A with fingers 5 2 1 (chord F major or sub-dominant. A nice progression is C-F-G7-C
