Are 12th Class Marks Important for CAT Exam?

Common Admission Test or CAT is an admission test for a management program. This is a graduation course that has three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR). The CAT syllabus could be covered easily if someone starts practising all these 3 sections in time.

The exam continues for three hours. For each section, one hour is allotted. However, due to Covid in 2020, the IIM Indore conducted the CAT Exam with extra 40 minutes for each section. Every year one of the branches of IIMs conducts this exam in a rotation system.

The Criteria of 2021 CAT:

IIM Ahmedabad this year recommended the CAT 2021 eligibility criteria that will be organised under strict supervision and safety measures because of the Covid situation. The registration for CAT applicants started on August 4.

According to the criteria, candidates should complete their Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University. They should have 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD). The CAT eligibility criteria 2021 has been kept very simple.

Few Important Facts to Remember About CAT and IIM:

CAT Exam criteria differ from one IIM to another. Each IIM institute has its specific standard of examining and choosing the eligible candidates. So it is very difficult to understand which institute is setting up which type of parameter for the candidates.

The IIMs are good, but each institute is especially known for a particular course. So, it is better for people who have a niche in specific courses to get a proper idea and then apply for that institute which is popularly known for that course only.

The marks of the 12th Class are not that important as different management institutes have their criteria. However, there are essential qualifying marks that each candidate applying for CAT has to achieve. One should get those marks to become eligible to apply for the CAT Exam.

CAT Exam Preparation:

Vocabulary question-

This particular sector includes synonyms, odd words, analogies, antonyms, confusing words, completion of sentences and cloze tests. To appear and crack the questions, the student needs to have a better understanding of vocabulary, reading skills, and reasoning powers. In terms of vocabulary, knowing just the words would not work. Students must understand the context, and they need to have a proper idea of where to fit the words. Understanding the use of words in context helps a lot in cracking this section.

Grammar-

From the time someone is studying for the Class 12 examination, it is essential to prepare for the CAT. With more practice, one can certainly improve their skills to crack the exam. To solve grammar questions, a student can take two approaches. One is by going with the rules and learning various parts of speech. Besides, the student should also know the usages of those parts of speech and their usages. Knowing the rules is very important and applying those in time is necessary. This will help in reducing the chance of making an error. Another way to practice the generally asked questions is by taking a different approach that will help understand the errors by detecting those and then correcting the sentences.

Reading Comprehension-

This specific section can be mastered with time. Students need to do a lot of practice. For CAT Exam Preparation, they need to read repeatedly. They need to check the newspapers, journals, books, anything that they can find helpful. Targeting to read at least 340 words per minute will help in answering the questions during the exam.

CAT Online Coaching:

One should be very serious with the CAT preparation. It is a time-consuming process and so asking for expert help is necessary. There are many CAT online Coaching institutions, which can help to get the proper guidance. Professionals run such CAT coaching centres, so students joining such platforms will definitely get the appropriate support. However, if someone wants to use that guidance while staying at home, they can join the online CAT Coaching centres.
