Career Opportunities After 12th:

There are many options to choose as a career after completion of 12th.  Options after Class 12 are galore. But it is what students choose that stands that will make or break their career further.  With every day new options are being opened.  It is only but obvious for you to get confused or distracted if you do not have your aim straight and direct. First, the student should clear about the meaning of career. Career is not only the way of earning money. A career is an individual's journey through learning, work and other aspects of life. There are a number of ways to define a career and the term is used in a variety of ways.

With dreams in students’ eyes and thoughts floating in Students’ mind they are now ready to face the toughest challenge in their life and it is also true that a career after class 12th  that will help you sail through the rest of your life. It is realistic.But choosing a career after 12th in your specific are i.e science , arts, commerce,e.t.c   is a difficult task.  After 10th you have chosen the subject in which you are interested. You have chosen the specific area. But after 12th you have to recognise and realise the only interest in the subject. And according to this realisation, you need to select the career.

The selection of a career is one of the most important things of life and it is difficult equally.

There are much more options to built a career after completion of 12th.Students need to know their interest, skills, depth of knowledge.  So many options are there, such as one can go for further studies or can apply for +2 level jobs or can do some courses and paid or unpaid internships or can start some business or can be self-employed,e.t.c.But before choosing a career you should contemplate seriously on the faculty of interest, your aptitude, educational qualifications, and ability to cope with the subject and above all the financial commitments that are necessary during the course.

For Science students, Arts or Humanities students and Commerce students have different options in their different areas.

All students can pursue their further studies through different kinds of Entrance Exams.

Entrance Exams are conducted by many educational institutions to select students for admissions into a particular stream, class or honour. The capability of students in various fields is evaluated through these entrance exams. These exams which are very competitive in nature teach students to deal with the competition they are about to face in their future. In India, entrance exams for various national level and state level entrance exams are conducted for admissions into various streams like management, medical, engineering, law, finance & accounts, hospitality, arts & design, government services, information and technology etc. Students who crack these exams are selected in the top colleges. Some detailed information about each stream entrance exam in India which includes general information about the exam has been given.

Career options for a Science stream pursuer:

The choice of subjects, be it Science or Arts, may vary between universities. For example, an economics degree may be given as a B.A. by one university, but as B.Sc. by another.

Biology, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Social Science, Sport/Exercise Science, General Science, Earth Science, Computer Science and the other fields of Engineering are almost considered under sciences, universally.

Ideally, a student is expected to be comprehensive in these aspects, before enrolling oneself to the course:
1. Why one student wants to pursue that career

2. How he or she would be successful in that career

3. Find out the Institutes of related courses

4. Try to gather information about the career options and, e. test his/her aptitude to appear in the Entrance Exams.


Science: A student can pursue Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc) by taking any science subject as the major subject. Numerous colleges offer specialisation in major subjects such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Physics etc. One can go further and opt for Masters Degree (M.Sc) in their selected subjects, after completion of graduation.

Courses in Medical Sciences: Various courses available for students opting for Medical Sciences are MBBS, BDS, BVS, B. Pharm, D Pharm and Nursing.

M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery):  It offers courses on Human anatomy. The duration of the course is approximately 5 ½ years which includes 1 year of internship.

Students can pursue Post Graduate specialisation in different subjects such as Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, Gynaecology, Neurons Sciences, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and Pediatrics.  

B.D.S (Bachelor in Dental Sciences): It provides courses in Dental Surgery and duration of the course is 5 years with Internship. After completion of B.D.S, one can do the Post Graduation (P.G) in Dental Sciences.

B.V.S (Bachelor in Veterinary Sciences): This courses mainly of the Animal disease, prevention and surgery cases. This course takes 4 1/2 years time with a practical Internship. One can do P.G studies in different specialisations after completion of B. V. S course.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm): It is also a well-known career prospect one can pursue. It takes is 4 years to complete the course. After completion of the course, one can start the alluring career in departments such as Drugs Research or Production in various Pharmaceutical Industries. If anyone yearns to do Post Graduation (M.Pharmacy) they can choose a specialisation in subjects such as:

1. Pharmacology

2. Pharmaceutics

3. Pharmaceutical Analysis

4. Pharmaceutical Chemistry

5. Pharm D

Diploma course in Pharmacy (D. Pharmacy): It offers a 2 years duration course after which one can work as a Pharmacist in various Medicinal Institutions. One can also opt for further studies such as B. Pharmacy and later M. Pharmacy.

Bachelor in Nursing (B. Sc Nursing): It is a 4-year course which covers topics such as healthcare, medicine dispensing and caring for ailing patients. There are various other courses which students can choose which are related to Medical / Medicine courses some of them include Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Bachelor in Physiotherapy,  

Biotechnology: It describes is a series of enabling technologies involving manipulation of living organisms or their subcellular components to provide useful products, processes or services for the betterment of mankind. This is 4-year course. Bioinformatics is a new concept which is related to storage, retrieval and analysis of biological data for drug discovery and drug design. It integrates information technology for processing biological information such as nucleic acid (DNA/RNA), protein sequence and structure. The duration of the course is 4 years or else can also go for B.Sc Bioinformatics where the course duration is 3 years.

B.P.T (Bachelor in Physiotherapy): It basically studies how to restore the functioning of the body which is affected by due to illness like paralysis, injury, shock. The basic duration of the course is 3 years.

B.H.M.S ( Bachelor in Homeopathic Medicinal Sciences): It provides courses how to increase the self-healing power of our body by using medicine which is derived from natural and herbal sources. The duration of the course is 5 1/2 year.

B.A.M.S (Bachelor in Ayurveda Medicinal Sciences): It covers courses how to restore the balance of our body without side effects. The main focus of the courses is to regain balance of liver disorders, rheumatic and chronic conditions. The duration of the course is only 3 years.

Engineering as a career option:

Engineering has an ample number of career option. If anyone interested in pursuing his/her career in engineering then they have to pass out 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and with minimum qualifying marks.

There are numerous government and non-government institutes in India which offers courses in various branches of Engineering. Among various colleges, Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) are the most favoured ones among the prospective students.

The seven IITs are viz, Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. Apart from these, there are 20 National Institute of Technologies (NITs), a couple of IIITs and several private institutes in India which are able to offer a grand platform for making a good career.

Students need to apply for engineering entrance exam to pursue engineering.

Engineering Entrance Exams:

JEE Mains:

JEE Main is National level entrance exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education after class XII for admission to Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs and centrally funded technical institutions like IIST, and is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced. Earlier it was known as AIEEE.

JEE Advanced:

JEE (Advanced) is conducted by the IITs and only candidates who qualify the JEE Mains are admissible to take the test. Admission to the qualifying students is granted to all undergraduate Engineering and other science programs offered at 16 IITs in India and ISM Dhanbad. There are two papers of 3 hours each. The question papers will be bilingual (in English and Hindi). Each of the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

BITSAT:

Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is administered to Class XII students for admission to the engineering degree courses at the BITS campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. BITSAT is the computer based online entrance exam for admission to BITS Pilani Engineering, Pharmacy, Information Systems and other courses. Notifications are out in the month of December and online tests are held in the month of May through June.

VITEEE:

Vellore Institute of Technology conducts the Engineering Entrance Test (VITEEE) for admission of students to its various B Tech Degree programs. Online applications are available from December and the test is held in March.

Different branches of engineering which boasts great potential for a blooming career in the engineering field are: Agricultural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering,Architecture, Automobile Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Ceramic Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Plastic Technology, Polymer Engineering, Rubber Technology, Space Technology, Textile Industry etc.


Architecture as a career option:

It is awarded for a course of study that lasts up to five years. In some cases, a B.Arch. can be undertaken after having completed a three-year generalised architectural degree plus an additional two years.


 Architecture Entrance Tests:

1. NATA

National Aptitude Test in an architecture entrance exam for admission to B Arch courses in India in Government and Government aided and un-aided colleges of Architecture. NATA can be given at any designated test centres, at least 6 working days prior to the cut-off date for applying for the preferred colleges. NATA applications forms are available in the month of March and one can take the exam on any working day from March to Aug.

Medical Entrance Tests:

AIPMT:

The All India Pre Medical Test is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for admission only for the 15 percent national quota in government medical/dental colleges all over India and for 100 percent seats in Delhi University, BHU, AFMC , Jamia Hamdard and for medical colleges in states of Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.

Entrance Exam for AIIMS MBBS:

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) conducts an entrance exam after Class XII at National Level for admission to MBBS seats in AIIMS New Delhi and to the other six new AIIMS like institutions. AIIMS conducts entrance exam for 72 seats in the MBBS course in Delhi and 100 each in other AIIMS like institutions.
JIPMER MBBS Entrance Test:

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) conducts an entrance exam for admission to MBBS course in its Institute. There are a total of 150 seats for admission into the same. Duration of the course is 4 years and 6 months as per the academic calendar of JIPMER followed by 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship.
Christian Medical College MBBS entrance exam:

The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore and Ludhiana, conduct separate entrance test for admission to its MBBS, BDS and other medical courses.

AIPVT:

The All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) is an entrance exam conducted after Class XII for admission to five years B. Vsc and AH courses in India. The exam is held to fill up 15 percent of a total number of seats in Government Veterinary colleges except in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Career option for Arts stream pursuer:

 After passing the higher secondary level examination a student can pursue Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) taking a special subject as the major subject. Some important major subjects which are offered by various colleges are history, languages, literature, law, philosophy, religion, performing arts, anthropology, communication, sociology, psychology and much more.

 Mass Communication: If you are looking for a career that would associate you with media, then Mass Communication is the course you should look for. It covers all from tv reporter to a scriptwriter in the film industry. Most of the students go for mass communication to get in the field of new media. The time duration of mass communication is also 3 years.

Fashion Designing: If you are among those creative students who always got appreciated for their creative skill by their school teachers, then this course is best to choose for future. It is very well said, “choose a career you love, and you will never have to worry a day in Confucius.” For this course too, the time duration will be 3 years.

 Event Management: Let’s choose the career of fun, excitement and glory. Yes, the lifetime job surrounded with new innovations, creative thinking and so much of blast. Just imagine! 24*7 party mood! But, before this, you will have to brush up yourself with the management skills

LLB The Bachelor Degree in Legislative laws: This is one among the most appropriate course for the students of Arts background. Take admission in some good college and you will get a professional degree in law after 3 years which is highly favourable from the future point of view.  There are so many options for every student irrespective of your stream or your marks or your higher qualification.
