Most of the Commerce Students when go to give an interview are generally faced with a very common question; as to "What is Commerce?" Now, it is not something we don't know specially after becoming graduate or post graduate in Commerce. But, the problem lies with the actual expression of Commerce. People generally don't know as how to express the meaning of Commerce. So, with this background I am today giving a brief about how to express the meaning of Commerce.

Commerce: Well when we use the word Commerce, the very first thing which comes to our mind is that Commerce is a stream which most of us choose as part of their curriculam. Well most of us chose Commerce stream because we as a student were weak in Science and Arts or Humanities is something we can not choose as of the misconception involved with it of its being a less important desiciple.

Anyhow the topic here is not about which stream is better for us or not. Hence, coming back to the concept, I will share with you the meaning of word Commerce.

The dictionery meaning of word Commerce can be summed up as "Exchange." So if someone asked from us that what is Commerce, we can simply say Commerce means Exchange. But this one word do not gives us the exact idea about Commerce. So, We can termed Commerce as Directly or Indirectly, it involves all those activities which starts from the place of production and ends at Place of Consumption.

Hence, it can be said as Commerce is an interchange of goods or commodities, especially on a large scale between different countries (foreign commerce) or between different parts of the same country (domestic commerce) trade.

It involves two things:

1.   Trade: Exchange of Goods. Retail Trade, Wholesale Trade, International Trade.

2.   Aids/Auxalaries to Trade: Exchange of Services such as Transportation, Banking, Insurance, Warehousing, Advertising etc. Basically, Trade is not possible without the services and therefore these are known as Aids to Trade.

I think this will help you all now to express Commerce in detail. Thanks
