Sitar

"I met Pandit T Radhakrishna in 1998 at a concert and was simply mesmerized by his musical hands. With my initial training in Sitar, I approached him and I was very fortunate to have been accepted as his pupil and from then on there was no looking back. Over the years I realized how he had mastered the technicalities and nuances of Sitar playing of the erstwhile Maihar Gharana, only by his rigorous practice and penance. His version of elaborating a Raag through Alaap, Jod, Usage of Kharaj Strings, Jhala, the Gatkari and Laykari all uphold the beauty of this Gharana. Though, influenced by many Sitar artists from Pandit N R Rama Rao to Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra and finally Bharat Ratna - Pandit Ravi Shankar, he has metamorphosed into a high caliber Sitar artist only by maintaining his individuality. Other than the routine Raagas, performing rare Raagas of the Maihar Gharana like Jogeshwari, Parameshwari , Manj Khamaj, Hem Bihag, are his forte. At a time when most of the musicians cater to the demands of the general public, he still believes playing his soulful music and carrying the listeners along, which has left an indelible impression in the minds of music lovers. My association with him for over 15 years has definitely broadened my Horizon and my understanding of Indian classical music has intensified by the keen interest he invokes in us. His unparalleled zest and vigor to nurture young musical minds is commendable and I pray to God almighty to help him accomplish in this mission. I can just summarize by saying that " My Life would not be complete with out him and his Family" "

Sarod

"Radhakrishna Sir is an extraordinary sitar player and an outstanding music teacher. I am very fortunate that I have got an opportunity to learn sarod from a guru like him. He makes every possible effort to impart true musical knowledge and nurtures the knowledge to the highest level of perfection He tries to expand creative capabilities of the students. Radhakrishna Sir teaches sitar/sarod according to the Maihar gharana tradition and ensures that the techniques, bols and swaras of the students are completely correct. I highly respect and appreciate his motivation, hardwork and effort which goes into teaching us. He gives very honest feedback of our performance and gives very useful inputs with which we can improve ourselves. His playing and teaching have had a great impact on the quality and depth of my music. I owe my devotion and love for my musical training to Sir. Any student, if really deserving, hardworking, with a genuine interest should learn music from Sir, I consider him as really incomparable to any other teacher across the world. " I would like to start off by saying that Sir is a guru in the truest sense of the word, and that is a rare and august accomplishment. Sir is not only a Sitar virtuoso, but also a very patient and meticulous teacher. What strikes me most about his teaching is his selflessness in sharing his inestimable erudition and priceless performance techniques. Sir is one of the greatest exponents of the Maihar tradition of Hindustani Classical Music- his approach and analysis of instrumental music is very firmly rooted in solemn rubrics, yet he is receptive to the wonders of the contemporary music. He is a bona fide tutor. His patience and genuine interest in the student's progress is unparalleled. I have always been an ardent lover of Classical music, but it was Sir who opened the sanctum of my mind to the subtlety of music. It was Sir who taught me the art of refinement of my music. He is a very holistic musician with austere practice schedules. He is extremely unassuming about his immense finesse. It is with great pride that I attend his classes. I owe my musical evolution to him."
