Children can be very active at this age, and many times they can not sit in one place for too long unless they find it interesting. In my opinion, you should play games with him, which requires a lot of patience and reward him for that later on. In this way, he will learn to be patient as well as he would be looking forward to his rewards.
Most of all, go easy on him as he grows. He will get a keen understanding of patience!
