Hi Srijan. I'll assume that the typo in acceleration that you've put as m/s is m/s^2. The concept behind solving such questions is to understand that, since the block isn't stuck/fixed with the elevator, it will NOT fall with the same acceleration as of the elevator, but will free fall under gravity.... ...more
Hi Srijan. I'll assume that the typo in acceleration that you've put as m/s is m/s^2. The concept behind solving such questions is to understand that, since the block isn't stuck/fixed with the elevator, it will NOT fall with the same acceleration as of the elevator, but will free fall under gravity. Therefore, using the second equation of motion, s=ut+at^2/2, we get s=9.8*0.2*0.2/2 = 0.196 (assuming g=9.8 m/s^2)
