Infact it is a good question., this is a common question in everyone's mind, people normally think that getting a testing job is easy compared to other jobs (as in developer etc.,), but one should understand the future of testing, the scope of development, visibility and what is your future if just in case you come into testing. Whether you are become a tester by accident or intentionally, testing is a process which exists in every project, every domain such as Real estate, Retail, CRM, Investment banking, Asset Management, commodity and Equity trading etc. Where ever you go and what ever project you do TESTING is one of the important job which validates, determines the quality of the project or the deliverables. Keeping that in mind it is obvious that your skill needs to be improved whether it is manual or automation with the growing needs. To keep it simple the approach of testing or the mind set of testing obviously needs to be matured when testing a retail website versus if you are working a banking project (which might need to deal with lots of real time data testing, DB testing, P&L etc.) To add to this everyone thinks testing always has a boundary to grow as in after Tester what ? According to me there is a lot of scope of improvement and growth which i want to explain in a simple way below : Tester -> Sr. Tester -> Manager QA -> Manager QA /PM and so on Tester -> Sr. Tester -> Manager QA -> Manager QA / BA (this is a very interesting way to looking into future of testing) Tester -> Automation Tester -> Automation Specialist -> Manager Automation / PM. How fast you acquire particular skills is important and what is the path that you are looking at is important. Hope this explanation would help.
