> One-off lessons, or classes on a short-term basis offered as well

> Demos booked here on UrbanPro are facilitated by UrbanPro and are online sessions.

What students need:
> At least one guitar of appropriate size and design that is setup well (i.e. easy to play and well-intonated/musically calibrated) or the willingness to acquire one (I can help–more on this at the bottom of this section).
> An hour or more of daily practice (necessary) free from all distractions as focus is required for musical development.

Classes for children:
Most children above the age of 6 are ready to learn to play guitar.

Since playing a musical instrument requires fine motor control and a good sense of rhythm and pitch, parents must be patient with their child's progress which will most likely be slow at first.

Learning most definitely accelerates when children enter their teens as this is when their minds and bodies are developed enough to play a musical instrument well.

Parents that work with me are advised to drive their children to keep up with regular practice. Parents are most welcome to join in on lessons as observers, and I will provide adequate insight to help them continue to coach their children between weekly lessons. Do not fret–music isn't complicated and most parents would be able to understand the finer details even without having any experience playing the instrument themselves.

Where children have adequate knowledge of the basics they are encouraged to take music certificate courses for which I provide tutoring as well.

Classes for adults:
Contrary to popular belief, the best time to learn a musical instrument, from a developmental point of view, is during adulthood.

Most adults possess mature motor control, and a heightened sense of rhythm and pitch, thereby positioning them to learn as quickly and efficiently as possible, given regular practice, which is necessary regardless of age.

Looking to buy a guitar?
I accompany students to music instrument stores across the city to help them find the right instrument. If the instrument requires further adjustment to make it more playable (i.e. comfortable to play and musically well-calibrated) I can assist with this as well by reaching out to guitar technicians on behalf of students.

Are you looking for electric guitar lessons? I teach all styles from blues and rock to various sub genres of metal.

Happy learning!

"Agnaye is a passionate musician and is committed to his students. He is methodical and has managed to interest my 6 yr old to learn and enjoy his guitar lessons. His choice to break free from an age old music lesson plan and introduction of classic & contemporary songs gives his class a "School of Rock" kinda environment and the kids love it!! We hope you stay with our group of kids and see them through reach places. "

"Agnaye tutors both my son(10yrs) & daughter (13yrs) and is a wonderful teacher. He has introduced them to guitar and continues to hold their interest with his kid friendly approach to teaching them at their respective pace. Their interest has only increased over time and they look forward eagerly to their weekly class with him. He is creative, patient and encouraging. Wish it was more frequent !! Would highly recommend him as a teacher. "

"I think the standout thing about Agnaye is that he very clearly loves what he does. And there are many things that follow from there. He tailors the lessons to suit a specific student not only basis his or her ability, but also, very importantly, as per the individual's music preferences. So with Agnaye you are not sitting in a class with multiple people learning a song you are just not interested in playing! He is very invested in your learning & growth on a one-on-one basis. He takes more trouble than anyone I have ever met, to make sure a student is comfortable. From going with you to buy your guitar to buying you a foot stool to changing your broken strings...well quite honestly I don't know anyone who does that. It only helps that Agnaye is very personable, warm and funny an individual. He's been my teacher for the past few months now and I look forward to the days when we play. I don't know the last time I said that about any teacher. Ever. In a nutshell, if i were to do it all over again, I'd still pick him as my guitar teacher! "

If you trawl through acoustic guitar forums, you're likely to hear the same things from acoustic players from all parts of the world. If you do decide to go with Ibanez, please make sure that the action (distance between string and fret — the lines on the neck of the guitar) is not too high. On Ibanez acoustics, I find that the saddle needs to be filed down to achieve low action (saddle is the white plastic on the body where the strings end). The filing of saddles and truss rod adjustment is a routine affair, don't hesitate to ask the store assistants to help you set up your guitar for low action. Have fun!

My bad Ashwani, because you mentioned the scale and said take the 1, 4th and 5th, I was thinking you were talking about forming a triad. Yes, you're right now that I understand what you're trying to say.

I think Ashwani meant 1, 3rd and 5th or C, E and G will give you the C major chord, not 1st, 4th and 5th.

It's very simple, the answer is practice! Keep at it daily, and after a few weeks you will suddenly realise you can sound and switch between open chords very quickly!

I agree with all of the above. If you enjoy guitar (you won't know till you try it out!), you will learn faster. If you don't find it fun, as some people feel when they try learning, you will stop practicing, get discouraged quickly and stop trying to learn. Having said that, my best student is in his... ...more

Having said that, my best student is in his mid thirties and some of my average students are very young kids. So, give it a shot, if you like it and practice everyday till your fingers tire out (half an hour to an hour), you'll be able to play a basic arrangement of most popular songs within a year. Good luck to you!
