It is due to scattering of light. As we know Sun light contain 7 colour VIBGYOR. The colour that have very high wavelength least scattered where as colour that have least wavelength highly scattered which means scattering of light is inversely proportional to wavelength of light. So when Sun light enter the earth surface blue colour is most scattered by the molecule of gas particles present on earth atmosphere than red colour that is why sky appear blue. One more thing should we noticed that scattering of light possible if size of gas particles larger than wavelength of light
