This first month course centers on learning distance, employing the hands, remaining stable in a stance and focusing on furthering the ability to relax.
Distance is learned by maintaining a certain balance at all times. Whenever there is encroachment or retreat, the gap must be filled with the appropriate positions. There must always be a balance at play.Â
Employing the hands is used to further dexerity and sensitivity in the hands. The ability of one to use the hands is furthered by relaxing as tension causes one to lose focus and act prematurely. There must be a proper, regulated intention on what to accomplish.
Remaining stable is the act of using the skeletal system. This occurs only when there is a consistent and constant stress on loosening and dropping the muscles. If muscles are indeed employed, what occurs is akin to moving a chair - everything moves together. One should instead strive to be like the rope which is easy to grasp but difficult to move if it is all over the place.
Relaxation is a constant process of being aware that there is needless tension in the body and consciously dropping it. The idea is not just to relax but to keep relaxing and to make the use of relaxation a practical component of daily life.
In this first month there is a introduction on distancing, use of the arms and structure of the body while maintaining a certain level of relaxation. The goal is always to relax and so it is sought one-mindedly.
