As compared to the previous decade, more and more students are applying to undergraduate courses abroad. Be it due to the extreme competition, or unavailability of certain specialized courses in India, undergraduate courses abroad become very appealing to our students. With structured and good loan/ scholarship options available today, doing an undergrad course in a country like USA is not a distant dream. SAT is the mandatory standardized entrance exams that students take to get admissions in US universities. The SAT is owned and published by the College Board, a nonprofit organization. It is developed and administered on behalf of the College Board by the Educational Testing Service.
Students who have graduated from class 12 or pre-university from a recognized Indian university are eligible to apply for an undergraduate course in USA. Experts recommend that students should start planning for the SAT exam two years before they want to start the course. Which means, students should plan for the exam from class 10 onwards and give the exam during class 11 or class 12. This allows the student to take a retest and not miss an admission cycle in cases of a low score. However, exam can be given in any class, even after class 12.
In order to write the exam, one has to register. The registration can be done online at the college board website – International SAT registration. Online process is beneficial as one gets immediate registration confirmation. You will know the availability of dates also immediately and printing and editing the details becomes easier. However, if the student is younger than 13 years or wants to pay by check or demand draft then registration can be done by mail as well. Refer to the SAT paper registration guide here. Additionally, you can find paper registration tips here. If you are looking for financial aid, it is important that at the time of registration, you fill the relevant questions to introduce yourself to universities, scholarship organizations and nonprofit educational organizations using Student Search Service®. Details of the fee can be found here
The SAT exam is divided into SAT Reasoning Test and SAT subject based Test. SAT reasoning test is the mandatory one. In order to showcase skills in specific subjects, students are recommended to take SAT subject based Tests which are optional. These help in strengthening the portfolio of students who are interested in specific or advanced courses.
