The NCERT Class 7 Maths, Chapter 9 deals with Rational Numbers. This chapter is a continuation of number system already studied in the earlier classes. You have already learnt integers, whole numbers and fractions. In this chapter, you will be learning about the Rational Numbers, its properties and operations. This chapter helps you understand the rational numbers in-depth and helps one to solve more complex problems on rational numbers.
To know more about NCERT Solutions for Class 7, Maths Chapter 9, Rational Numbers, let’s look at the topics and sub-topics of this chapter:
9.1 Introduction
9.2 Need for Rational Numbers
9.3 What Are Rational Numbers?
9.4 Positive and Negative Rational Numbers
9.5 Rational Numbers on a Number Line
9.6 Rational Numbers in Standard Form
9.7 Comparison of Rational Numbers
9.8 Rational Numbers Between Two Rational Numbers
9.9 Operations on Rational Numbers
Section 9.2 – This section makes you understand the importance of rational numbers and their applicability in practical life. In this section, you will learn about the need for rational numbers and the interconnection with other number forms. It helps to understand the concept of rational numbers and their use in daily life.
Section 9.3 – In this section, you will learn about the concept of rational numbers and their meaning. It gives a clear picture of the rational numbers. You will understand how rational numbers are connected to the concept of ratios and integers. In this section, you learn that rational numbers are the ones which can be expressed in the form of p/q, where p and q are integers and ‘q’ is not equal to zero. You will also learn the concepts of numerator and denominator in rational numbers. This section also focuses on equivalent rational numbers.
Section 9.4 – This section deals with positive and negative rational numbers. You will learn the characteristics of positive and negative rational numbers. Any rational number with both the numerator and denominator as a positive integer will be a positive rational number. Any rational number with a negative integer either in the numerator or denominator is a negative rational number.
Section 9.5 – This section deals with Rational Numbers on a Number Line. In this section, you will learn to represent rational numbers on a number line. You will learn that rational numbers like -1 and +1 are to be represented at equidistant from 0 on the number line. In this section, you will learn to represent the negative and positive rational numbers on the two parts of number lines depending on the signs.
NCERT Class 7 Maths, Chapter 9 helps you to understand the concept of Rational Numbers. This chapter has many practical examples of rational numbers used in practical problems. You will learn all the operations that are performed on rational numbers. You will also learn to represent the rational numbers on a number line. This chapter helps you to understand the positive and negative rational numbers and all the other properties related to rational numbers. This chapter is an extension of the other chapters on the number system already studied in the earlier classes.
Section 9.6 – This section deals with the concept of rational numbers in standard form. In this section, you will understand that standard form rational numbers are the rational numbers which have only 1 as their common factor between the numerator and denominator. Rational numbers with more than 1 common factors, can be reduced to simplest form by dividing both numerator and denominator by the common factor. The simplest form is the standard form of the rational number. It helps you to learn to reduce rational numbers to its standard form by using common factors.
Section 9.7 – This section deals with the comparison of rational numbers. In this section, you will learn to compare two rational numbers with the help of a number line. The position of rational numbers on the number line helps you to compare the two rational numbers. You will also learn the positive rational numbers are always greater than the negative rational numbers. In this section, you will learn to compare different rational numbers and learn to know the difference using their positions on the number line.
Section 9.8 – This section deals with rational numbers between two rational numbers. In this section, you will learn that between two rational numbers you can find unlimited rational numbers. It is not possible in the case of integers, but in rational numbers, you can find unlimited rational numbers. In this section, you will learn to find the rational numbers between any two rational numbers.
Section 9.9 – This section deals with the concepts of operations on rational numbers. In this section, you will learn to solve problems on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational numbers. This section helps you to learn to solve all the operations on rational numbers by following the right steps. You will learn the steps to solve all the operations on rational numbers. This section has various exercises to learn to solve the operations on rational numbers.
