My suggestion is to - become good in one programming language - preferably Java and one O/S preferably Linux. Be aware of Open Source systems. Try to identify the opportunities in your existing company and focus on those skills.

Sad that you wasted time in HR.But wise that you chose to learn IT.Many HR have come to me for training in SharePoint to work in IT. The HR role is wicked where many HRs in many companies do not pay the dues for many employees and get the curse of many employees. You have escaped the future curses and safe in programming. Please learn the programming concepts like creating variables, looping(for,foreach,while) , functions. The same concepts are used in various programming languages like Javascript,Powershell etc. If you are new , best to learn HTML,CSS,Javascript(more than enough). All the best!
