In the Indian society, a lawyer has a multi-dimensional role to play. He/she is an interface between the public and the judiciary. Today, the areas of legal advice ranges from IT, media to even sports and entertainment. The members of the legal profession are often given the status of privileged members of the community considering the critical responsibility they have. In India the common entrance exam for pursuing law courses is – Common Law Admission test (CLAT) which is conducted by 14 participating law schools for admission into UG and PG law courses. The exam is of objective type which is conducted by 18 participating NLUs (National Law Universitites) on rotatoinal basis. The CLAT 2017 will be conducted by Chanakya National Law University, Patna.
CLAT eligibility : The candidate should be an Indian or an NRI.
For Undergraduate course: The candidate should have successfully completed Class 12 by a recognized university/board with a minimum of 45% marks. The candidate should be under the age of 20 years, as on 1st July, 2017 and candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates shall be under 22 years. Candidates who are appearing for Class 12 exams are also eligible. In case, the candidate belongs to SC/ST community, maximum age for exam is 22 years. The minimum marks needed for eligibility are 40% of the total marks.
For Postgraduate course: To be eligible to appear in CLAT-2017, a candidate should have obtained a LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. degree/any other equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% marks in case of SC and ST category candidates).
An eligible candidate can apply for the CLAT examination online. The application form is usually made available between January and March of the given year, considering the exam itself is held in May.
