the CA (Chartered Accountancy) exam exemption rule is applicable in certain circumstances, allowing candidates to be exempt from appearing in specific papers of the CA Intermediate (IPC) or CA Final examinations based on their academic qualifications.

Here are the key points related to the CA exam exemption rule:

For CA Intermediate (IPC) Examinations:

  1. Graduates/Post Graduates with Prescribed Marks:

    • Graduates or Post Graduates in Commerce having secured in aggregate a minimum of 55% of the total marks or its equivalent grade in the examination conducted by any recognized University (including Open University) are eligible for exemption.

    • Graduates or Post Graduates other than those referred to in point 1(a) above having secured in aggregate a minimum of 60% of the total marks or its equivalent grade in the examination conducted by any recognized University (including Open University) are eligible for exemption.

  2. Exemption from the First Examination Under New Scheme:

    • A candidate who was admitted to the Professional Education (Course-II)/Intermediate course (under the syllabus as specified in Appendix-I to this scheme) but had not appeared for all the papers of the Intermediate examination under the said scheme and at the time of first appearance in the Professional Education (Course-II)/Intermediate (IPC) Examination under the revised scheme has either completed the prescribed period of articled training or is serving the last twelve months of articled training on the first day of the month in which the examination is held shall be eligible for exemptions.

For CA Final Examinations:

  1. Exemption Based on Graduation/Post Graduation Marks:

    • Graduates or Post Graduates in Commerce having secured in aggregate a minimum of 55% of the total marks or its equivalent grade in the examination conducted by any recognized University (including Open University) are eligible for exemption.

    • Graduates or Post Graduates other than those referred to in point 2(a) above having secured in aggregate a minimum of 60% of the total marks or its equivalent grade in the examination conducted by any recognized University (including Open University) are eligible for exemption.

  2. Exemption from the First Examination Under New Scheme:

    • A candidate who was admitted to the Professional Education (Course-II)/Final (under the syllabus as specified in Appendix-I to this scheme) but had not appeared for all the papers of the Final examination under the said scheme and at the time of first appearance in the Final examination under the revised scheme has either completed the prescribed period of articled training or is serving the last twelve months of articled training on the first day of the month in which the examination is held shall be eligible for exemptions.

Important Notes:

  • The specific eligibility criteria for exemption may be subject to changes, and candidates are advised to refer to the latest official notifications from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

  • Exemption is granted only for specific papers, and candidates should carefully check which papers they are eligible to be exempt from based on their academic qualifications.

  • The exemption rule is applicable for a limited period, and candidates should meet the eligibility criteria at the time of the first appearance in the CA Intermediate or CA Final examinations under the revised scheme.

Candidates seeking exemptions should carefully review the latest ICAI announcements and guidelines to ensure accurate and updated information regarding the exemption rules and eligibility criteria.
