Java and Python are the most widely used programming languages around the world. Both languages have their merits and demerits as well as similarities and differences. The similarities between the two languages are as follows:

  1. Java and Python both are object-oriented programming languages. They both adopt the feature of "everything is an object",i.e. both the languages treat everything in the program as objects.
  2. Both Java and Python follow the "Garage collection" system for their memory management. Garbage collection is a method of managing the memory, where the objects that are not in use are destroyed in time.
  3. Both these languages have extensive standard and external libraries.

Both languages are platform-independent.

However, considering the points mentioned above, Java and Python are not very similar.

  1. Python is a dynamically typed language, where the type of the variable need not be declared during the initialization of the variable. Whereas in Java, the datatype should be mentioned before it is declared, hence it is statically typed language.
  2. In Python, multiple classes can be defined in a single file, but in Java, each top-level public class must be defined in its own file.
  3. Java is a compiled language, whereas Python is an interpreted language

public class X { public static void main(String [] args) { X x = new X(); X x2 = m1(x); /* Line 6 */ X x4 = new X(); x2 = x4; /* Line 8 */ doComplexStuff(); } static X m1(X mx) { mx = new X(); return mx; } } After line 8 runs. how many objects are eligible for garbage collection?
Only one. After line 8 the original object referred to by x2 is dereferenced and ready for garbage collection. In m1(), mx ignores the object passed as argument and refers to a new object which is returned.
